The author of two of the emails were listed as "University of Mauritius". The University of Mauritius confirmed that it was "not responsible for the advertising campaign". The email contained a URL which displayed the following advert:
In December 2010, a complaint was lodged for unauthorised marketing through short message service (SMS). The decision of the Data Protection Commissioner was that "the consent collected for product marketing purposes should be used solely for the described purposes and cannot be used for different and incompatible purposes with marketing unless express consent is again obtained from the customer for these different purposes".
I have never been asked for consent for an advertising campaign.
